Week 5
““In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves.
The process never ends until we die.
And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.” ”
We had some great discussion today around the process of ownership - we are the bosses of our own day (mostly), and hold the opportunity to decide how our work is accomplished in our own hands - we get to decide when and how it gets done! We discussed the freedom we have to get our own breakfast, not waiting for someone else to start our day, to seek God and begin to feed ourselves spiritually (transitioning from relying on our parents for spiritual “milk” and starting to make our own meals with God). We will continue to share how this is going each week and hear how we are each taking steps in this direction. Your students still need your support and encouragement as they make these steps - be sure to commend their wise choices and admire their work! : )
Character Journal - Discernment
Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Students will be taking turns leading the devotional for the next 6 weeks (leaders will be chosen by the Decide Now app each week). Claudia was chosen for next week, and she will be helping us discuss Matthew 22:37-38 around the quality of Loyalty.
We are practicing using the 5 Common Topics for math problems in class - please bring a problem for next week for a turn leading the group discussion!
We continued with the 3rd Declension this week and did the first few examples of each assigned exercise - there are fewer exercises this week!
VOCAB and CHART WORK are key to success this year! Encourage them to get good vocab review in this week - we will be playing vocab charades on Monday!
Quizlet is a great app for vocab review!
We blank page assessed the United States (ask them to see how it went for them! They looked great!), and started Central America and the Caribbean using a grid method.
This week: Draw review maps of Canada and the United States, continue with Central America and the Caribbean, and memorize capitals.
I read their reading assignment aloud in class while they drew their Central America and Caribbean maps.
Don’t forget your Geo Terms!
Date your practice maps in pen.
Blank page assessment on the U.S. + Canada next week.
Bring in your best map + drawing, memorization, fact to share in class!
Research Topic: Fish
We learned about the study of fish schooling and explored the many things we know about fish topics with the 5 common topics!
Choose a “fish” topic, find two (or more) sources, create a KWO for each, fuse them and write your essay (as many paragraphs as you choose), illustrate and prepare to present to class.
Remember to use your IEW writing skills! Include an intro and conclusion.
**Sources can be kept simple and limited to what you have in your home.
Include a bibliography, using APA formatting.
Analogies for everyone daily Basics; these can be completed either daily (or all in a single day).
We are working through Proverbs 25, adding a verse each week. Try to memorize each week’s verse!
Proverbs 25:5 “Take away the wicked from before the King, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.”
Treats for weekly memorization! : )
LTW: Sorting for Proofs ~ Carry on, Mr. Bowditch
We learned about sorting our ANI chart and choosing supporting proofs for our issue. They will be using workbook pages for their exercises this week to sort their ANI chart at home, and organize their proofs and supports.
